Dental problems are something that can actually affect a
child very early on, and they can impact a child’s overall oral health journey
not only now, but for the rest of their life. It’s imperative to get them
started on the right path, even before the first tooth appears. There are some
dental issues that could come about, but if you do take care of them right
away, you can avoid them, and make sure that you’re doing what you feel is
right for yourself, and for your kid as well.
Probably the biggest thing is bottle feeding. Mothers do it.
There is always that war between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and we’re
not going to get into that. But, we are going to talk about if you’re having
juice and other sugary drinks, such as those formulas laden with sugars. Having
this actually creates a very acidic environment, and this is a place that will
help to breed cavities, even early on. The liquid that goes around the teeth
area, even without a tooth there, actually will allow the bacteria to multiply
there faster and faster and this will also produce acids too. The acids will
then start to decay the teeth there. You might notice, even in very small kids,
that yellow spots or lines form around the teeth. If you see this, check the
teeth regularly, and if you spot it, that’s the first stage of tooth decay. You
should see your dentist immediately in that case to get this fixed up. Your
Eugene Dentist will also discuss the proper oral hygiene habits to have, along with
what you can do in order to have the best health for your child.
The ideal thing to do, is before bed, brush your toddler’s
teeth with a toothbrush. You do put the child to bed with a bottle, only keep
water in there. Ideally, after any juice and such, give them a bit of water to
rinse it out. Obviously keep in mind the diapers and such too, but it’ll help.
If you don’t want to give them water, use a washcloth after
every meal. Wipe down the gums, and this will help to prevent bacteria.
Now, because of this bacteria in the mouth not being taken
care of, the cavities will form, and that creates a feast for the bacteria that
are there. This will then already start to create a hole in the enamel of the
tooth, which will make it grow bigger and bigger over time. A cavity is a major
problem, and even on baby teeth it shouldn’t be ignored. Lots of parents will
avoid treatment since they think it’ll just fall off. However, the primary
teeth won’t actually hold in place when the permanent ones come in. The primary
teeth actually will transfer these cavities and decay down, and then that
becomes a major problem, since you have to deal with the adult teeth now.
If you notice a discoloration, check with your dentist right
away. This is either a chalky white or a brown spot on the teeth, or even a
small ring of yellow on there.
The ideal remedy for this sort of thing is to brush their
teeth twice a day, before bedtime ideally. Overnight, the bacteria like to
play, so don’t let them have that chance by skipping out on brushing and
flossing their teeth. It might be easier for you if you make brushing your
teeth fun. Make it a game for them, since it’ll allow them to enjoy a healthy
habit such as this one, and it’ll even work to ease the stress. Try doing this,
and it’ll definitely work.
Protecting a toddler’s teeth is actually super important and
this article showed you why. Take care of them now, because those baby teeth
soon become adult teeth, and if you don’t rectify all of the issues that are
there, you’re going to end up creating more problems for the teeth later on down
the line. Help to protect them for yourself, and for the child, and do an
effective care for them every single day so that they stay healthy and happy.
